I have been a guitar player for 30 years, I remember back when everywhere had a live band, (Stoke on Trent) playing for a living and learning on the job it seemed like everyone was or wanted to be a musician, my entire social life was based around gigs, playing or watching. Musical influences were everywhere, even in the charts there were classic bands which are still going strong today.
The day Elvis Presley passed away was the day i first noticed the guitar, perhaps just seeing him on stage with a guitar did it for me, whatever it was i decided to get one and learn how to play. With a few lessons from my local jazz player i started to pick it up and meet other people who wanted to play, at 16 was earning a living playing at pubs & clubs doing chart stuff at the time, over the next few years i took an interest in Rock Jazz & Blues meeting some great players on the way, of course i had to earn a living so i did plenty of seasons & cruise ships too.
Even now i still find the guitar magical and addictive, there is still some great players out there, although you may have to dig deep to find them, but that also applies to music in general, we tend to be force feed music but with the help of the internet you can find just what your looking for and call it your own.
Along the way so far I have worked & been influenced by some great musicians/singers, The Climax Blues Band, The cast from the 50s Oh Boy Show, People I grew up with and worked with in all those good and not so good venues were musicians have to play, a gigs a gig.
On the links page there is a short list of artists that i listen to regularly and also artist & bands everyone should be introduced to at some point in their lives.
Keep on playing, there will always be a new generation of musicians - Don't miss out!!!
